What is Work Permit (LMIA Based)?

A work permit LMIA (Labour Market Impact Assessment) is a document issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that allows an employer to hire a foreign worker for a specific job in Canada.

Who can Apply?

Generally, individuals who meet the following criteria may be eligible to apply:

  1. You must have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer who has obtained a positive LMIA for the position.
  2. You must possess the necessary qualifications, skills, and experience required for the job.
  3. You would need to meet the program's requirements, including demonstrating that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay and that you have sufficient ties to your home country.
  4. You must satisfy the Canadian immigration admissibility criteria, which include factors such as good health, security clearance, and no criminal record.

When to Apply?

You should apply for a work permit based on an LMIA as soon as you have received a valid job offer from a Canadian employer and they have obtained a positive LMIA. It's generally advisable to start the application process as early as possible to allow sufficient time for the processing of your application.
